Arunima Sinha is a mountaineer who has climbed the six highest peaks in the world but without any legs. In 2011, she met with an accident and lost her both legs but not her determination to do something.

Arunima Sinha is the world's first female amputee to climb Mount Everest. Besides, she is also a motivational speaker and has been a former volleyball player. Other than Mount Everest, she has also scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Kosciusko in Australia, Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, and Mount Vinson in Antarctica. She has started her own sports academy named Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad Viklang Khel Academy.

Arunima Sinha Wiki – Early Life

Arunima Sinha was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, on 20th July 1989. She was a former football and a volleyball player. She desired to join the paramilitary forces but unfortunately could not as after getting a call from the CISF, she came through a life-changing accident while traveling to Delhi. She first got married in the year 2012 but it did not last. Later in the year 2018, she got married to a Para-Olympian player Gaurav Singh in Alambagh, Lucknow.

Arunima Sinha Biography – Family

Sinha’s father was in the Indian Army, and her mother was a health supervisor. After her father's death, her mother grew and took care of the family. Besides, that she also has a sister named Laxmi Sinha and two brothers Om Prakash, an ex-CISF personnel, and a younger brother Rahul Sinha. After her father's death, her sister Laxmi Sinha's husband took responsibility for the family.

Arunima Sinha Story – Train accident

Arunima Sinha after getting a call from the CISF boarded the Padmavati Express train for Delhi on 12th April 2011 to join the CISF. Soon, some thugs entered the coach and tried to pull her gold chain. Arunima resisted them despite that they started attacking her and threw her out of the train and ended up colliding with another incoming train.

She had a serious leg and pelvic injury and lost her leg after this massacre. She was offered compensation both by the Indian Sports Ministry and the Minister of State for Youth affairs. Later she was also offered a job by the Indian Railways.

Arunima Sinha - The Turning Point

Sinha climbed Mount Everest with a prosthetic leg which shows how difficult it must have been. She did an 18-month course from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and met a lot of obstacles but she was unstoppable. She had a very challenging journey over through but overcoming these she finally made it to Everest on 21st May 2013.

Arunima Sinha Story – Antarctic Journey

After climbing Mount Everest her next aim was to climb all seven highest peaks in all the seven continents. She covered over six peaks in Asia, Europe, South America, Australia, Africa, and North America. She conquered various peaks such as-

  • Mount Elbrus - 5642m, 18510ft
  • Prominence - 4741m, 15554ft
  • Kilimanjaro of Tanzania - 5895m, 19341ft
  • Prominence - 5885m, 19308ft
  • On 4th January 2019, she climbed the seventh peak on Antarctica and is the first women amputee to climb Mount Vinson.

Arunima Sinha Biography – Controversies

  • Her train incident which took place on 12th April 2011 the police claimed that it was a suicide murder which she attempted.
  • SAI doubted that Arunima played at the National Level but was not defined whether she was apt for the status.
  • In December 2017, a controversy arose when Arunima was denied to enter The Ujjain Mahakal temple as she did not follow the proper dress code.

Arunima Sinha – Book

While Anurima was in the hospital due to her surgery, she wrote “Born Again in the Mountain: How I Lost Everything and Found It Back” writing about all her life events. The book was launched by Prime Minister Modi in the year 2014.
