Dr J Biography: How Japtej Singh became Singing Sensation Dr J?

Dr. J (Dr Japtej Singh) is an eye & Phacoemulsification doctor, medical retina specialist, and a Punjabi singer born on January 20, 1983, in Pathankot, Punjab. He chose eye surgery as his job because he comes from a medical family. Dr J, as he is known, had his education at Convent School Pathankot, his MBBS from Amritsar, and his Masters in Science (MS) EYE from Dehradun. Currently, he is a Cataract and Lasik surgeon.

Dr J belongs to a medical family where his father, Dr. KD Singh, is an MS EYE surgeon, and his mother, Dr. Lovlin Kamal, is an MD Gold Medalist Dentist. Dr. Ashneet Walia, his wife, is an MD in Pathology, and the couple has two children, Joy Singh and Samarpartap Singh.

Dr J entered the Punjabi music industry in 2020 after an 8-year successful career in the healthcare profession. His first Punjabi music video, “Ladki Kamaal Ae,” was made by Joy Beats. “Kameena” and “Bamb Baby” are two of his other renowned Punjabi songs.

• Music Music has always piqued his curiosity, and singing has always been his love. But he had no intention of pursuing it as a vocation. Dr J debuted after being inspired by Diljit Dosanjh, a well-known Punjabi singer and actor. His family, particularly his father, was quite supportive.
• Travelling Dr. J has traveled extensively worldwide, visiting places such as America, Tashkent, Canada, and Indonesia. He enjoys traveling, working out at the gym, and singing.
• Health Conscious Dr. J is also health-conscious and prefers salads to other foods. He generally avoids eating junk & outside food.
• Producer Dr. J is also the producer of the Punjabi film “Sohreyan Da Pind Aa Gaya,” which stars Gurnam Bhullar and Sargun Mehta. If given a chance, he would like to work in the Punjabi film industry. Gurdas Maan, an Indian singer, songwriter, choreographer, and actor, is Dr J’s musical idol.

The reason for shortening his name from Dr Japtej Singh to Dr JP and then to Dr J is to attract people’s interest and make it easier to recall for them. He refuses to give up the title of “Dr.” & believes that being a doctor is his identity, accomplishment, and he wishes to be acknowledged with it all time.

Dr. J is also establishing a studio in Pathankot, Punjab, to give ambitious and budding singers, music composers, lyricists, and other artists a platform. Dr J will produce movies and music records under the umbrella of Joy Beats Production House to foster aspiring actors and singers, particularly from the Pathankot area.

Though the medical field and working as an eye surgeon were his first loves, he says that when he entered the music industry, he gave it his all. Dr. J advises that whatever profession you are in, whatever work you perform, do it with all your heart and soul, not just for the sake of doing it. He was drawn to the music industry because he believes that singing is a calming activity and enjoys singing.
