Skyroot Aerospace : First of its kind

Skyroot Aerospace is a start-up founded in 2018 by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, among other former engineers and scientists from ISRO. They aim to craft small lift launch vehicles to carry light rockets and satellites to orbit. The vehicles will support communication services like earth imaging, IoT from space, GPS, and broadband internet and are the first company in India to successfully test a high-strength carbon composite third stage, a solid rocket stage, and a liquid propulsion engine.

Note : Each of Skyroot’s vehicles can be assembled and launched in under 24 hours and can take satellites that weigh up to 720 kilograms to low earth orbit in a highly cost-effective manner.

Fun Fact : Skyroot Aerospace is the most affordable on-demand ride to space on the market.

Skyroot Aerospace : Launch Vehicles

Skyroot Aerospace is currently designing and manufacturing a series of expendable small lift launchers, which propel rockets up to 720 kilograms into orbit. The series is expendable, meaning one can only use the launchers a single time before being discarded. In addition, Skyroot is working on a reusable model. These small lift launchers are crafted for and target the small satellite market and have already booked launches beginning mid-2022.

Note : The series is called “Vikram”, named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian Space Program.

Skyroot Aerospace : Vikram Series Features

  • Vikram I
    • 225 kg to 500 km SSPO (Space Solar Power Orbit); 315 kg to 45º inclination 500 km LEO (Low Earth Orbit)
    • Reliable solid propulsion stages, Miniaturized and Modern Avionics, Ultra-Lowshock Pneumatic separation
    • Orbital Adjustment Module
    • Requires minimal range infrastructure: Can be assembled and launched within 24 hours from any launch site.
  • Vikram II
    • 410 kg to 500 km SSPO; 520 kg to 45º inclination 500 km LEO.
    • Advanced Cryogenic Methalox engine replaces the third stage of Vikram 1.
    • Upper stage cryo-engine - enables multi-orbit insertions
    • Requires minimal range infrastructure: Can be assembled and launched within 72 hours from any launch site.
